A dear friend's husband had passed and she had been looking at her options for placing her husband's remains in a container. She couldn't find any beautiful choices and everything was mass-produced, so she asked me to make her a hand-thrown urn. It was a very sweet and significant project. She was thrilled with what I made and it opened another avenue of making meaningful pots. I became intrigued by the idea of making very personal vessels for beloveds' remains. The possibilities are endless: carving directly into the clay with symbols or words, adding flourishes from nature, or letting the fire have its way with the glaze for a truly one-of-a-kind spectacular art piece.
